Debbie Neill was born in Zambia and attended school in Zimbabwe and university in South Africa. After graduating from the University of Cape Town in 1977 she travelled widely, in the first place as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language and latterly with her husband who is in the oil business.
Coming from a family of artists, Debbie has always painted. She has exhibited in the Middle East, Surrey and in Louisiana and since arriving in Aberdeen eleven years ago she has taken part in local exhibitions. However, it has only been in the last four years, since the demands of a busy family life have begun to lessen, that she has been able to devote more time to painting and exhibiting.
Debbie paints mainly in acrylics and watercolours, bright landscapes of local places. She enjoys depicting the colours of summer, the patchwork fields, the dark trees and the sharp patterns made by the houses and farms in the Aberdeenshire countryside. In the winter snowy city scenes and the dramatic north east coastline with its many small harbours also provide a source of inspiration.
Once a month Debbie offers all day workshops here at the Milton ArtGallery, exploring techniques with acrylic paint. She is also a popular demonstrator in the area.
