Born in Glasgow in 1950, John studied drawing and painting at Grays School of Art, Aberdeen from 1967, graduating in 1971 with a D.A.
He later added an Honours degree in Art History from the Open University. After many years of teaching art in Edinburgh schools, John decided to give up teaching in 2005 in order to concentrate fully on his painting. Working mainly in oils in his Edinburgh studio, John draws his subject matter from the landscape, townscape, coastline and wildlife of Scotland.
John’s vibrant, evocative and painterly work is increasingly in demand. His work is to be found exhibited in several galleries throughout the country and is in many private collections in the U.K. and abroad.
John’s work has also been reproduced in the Scottish Parliament.
