Emma Riachmakes unique, hand built ceramic sculptures on an organic theme inspired by nature.

She had studied ceramics as a student but it was many years before she revisited this art form and attended a local pottery course. This reignited her passion and she found her natural talent resurfacing.

She was looking for something more challenging than a pot or dish and following a chance comment during a conversation with her tutor the humble pine cone was born!

Living in rural Aberdeenshire she found herself collecting these in all shapes and sizes on her frequent walks with her young family

After some thought the method of construction became clear. Following the firing process the next decision was ‘to glaze or not to glaze’. Deciding that a glaze would not give the finish she was looking for, she hand painted it.

Emma entered this, her first creation, into the Kincardine and Deeside Arts Forum competition held annually at theMiltonArtGallery, Crathes and won the 3D Award

Since then she has added apples (some with bites taken out), pears, and peppers to her designs, plus many more unique and interesting projects planned. However the humble pine cone remains a favourite.
