Jane Barker gained a degree in Creative Arts at Bretton Hall College, West Yorkshire, in 1982.  On returning to Huntingdonshire, she established her studio at 35 High   Street, Hemingford Grey, working there full time from 1983 to 1996 under her maiden name of Jane Searle.  Since marriage in 1996, Jane has been living and working in Aberdeenshire.

Jane’s pots are all thrown in stoneware or porcelain, and fired to 12800C under a reducing atmosphere in a self-built propane fired kiln.  Her work mostly uses a variety of slip techniques, including scraffitto, inlay, and paper resist.  Recently, Jane has been using lettering in her work.
