After graduating from Harrow with a Distinction in Ceramics and heaps of enthusiasm I set up and ran a studio in Shropshire, with help from the Crafts Council and the Princes Youth Business Trust. 8 years later, I returned in 1996 to Scotland to train as a nurse, and now work part -time in an acute speciality, so really appreciate the luxury of making work without the previous pressures.
All work is predominantly hand built and modelled in soft white earthenware clay, and high fired. I am a compulsive decorator, and I find great pleasure in exploring textures and ornament, so work can take several weeks to complete with decoration applied at different stages in the process. I work in small groups of items and like to vary scale and arrangement within a theme. With the freedom to develop ideas and explore new methods of making, it helps keep the work fresh and interesting (for me at least!).
