John R Todd -
John was born in Northumberland on the
North East coast
of
England
and spent his formative years in the
shipping port and seaside town of
Blyth
.
The rich countryside and varied coastline of Northumberland with its
mining towns, small fishing villages and busy shipping ports, were the
inspiration for his first attempts in capturing the natural elements around
him.
With
a love of the sea and a need to travel, he succumbed to a recruitment campaign
and joined the navy. Throughout
his naval career his passion for art was never compromised.
His travels brought him into contact with many artists, gaining him
invaluable knowledge in the working practices, techniques and traditions in
various cultures throughout the world.
He
first arrived in
Scotland
in the late 1950’s where he
eventually married and set up home in Lossiemouth where he still lives and
works from his studio at home.
No
artist can work in
Scotland
without drawing inspiration from its
majestic mountains, forests, open moors and farmland, all with such rich and
diverse forms of wildlife. With so
much beauty around, it is easy to understand why he chooses to portray his
works with a kind of truth and simplicity which is unaffected by the vagaries
of fashions on the Art World.
David Wright
- is a well-known local artist who paints mainly in oils
and water-colours. His themes
include railway art, aviation art, wildlife and landscapes.
He
has paintings in collections at home and abroad, and has illustrated subjects
in books and magazines.
David
is also a member of The Guild of Aviation Artists and regularly exhibits in
London
and
Edinburgh
.
