Originally from Lanarkshire, Janet was an arts and crafts teacher before changing direction in 2001, to become a successful figurative artist. Her focus is on depicting movement and the shapes made by the body in action, encouraging the viewer to move through the dynamic composition. The figures, the movement of the fabric and traditional tartans are depicted using mixed media; acrylics, oil pastels, oil paint and inks.
Janet’s subjects range from Scottish dancing, rugby and golfing and celebrate the nostalgia of these events, as well as evoking a sense of pride.
Now living in East Lothian, Janet’s work is known throughout Scotland and she is regularly commissioned to paint a specific tartan event.
